This article will show you how important keywords are for SEO, and how to use them to increase your traffic.
Keywords are one of the most, if not the most important things to take in consideration when you are doing SEO.
When choosing your keywords, you also need to make sure your pages fit that keyword. For example, if you have a page about skateboarding, and you want to target the keyword "skateboarding", you should try to optimize that page for the word "skateboarding". You can do this by putting it in h1, and h2 tags, and by adding a tag section, with a bunch of keywords that relate to skateboarding.
You may also want to see how competetive the keyword is. It can take a while to get listed high on Google with established web sites that have optimized their pages for the same keyword you have chosen. That is not always the case though.
One more thing. When titling your pages, always make sure you include your keyword(s) in the title of your page. This is often overlooked, but search engines do pay attention to it.
The main thing to have when going through this process is patience. If you do not have patience, you could go crazy :)
Oh, and there is no real reason why I am always using skateboarding as an example; I guess it's just easy!
